The work was commissioned by Judith Jamison and Alvin Ailey Dance Company for the occasion of the Company’s 50th anniversary. In the spirit of Ailey’s mission to “deliver dance back to the people,” hyper slow-motion videos of the company performing short sections of choreography, play on monitors that face out to the street from the company rehearsal studio. Scaled to life, the dancers float from one window to the next, creating a nearly Trompe-l'œil effect of three-dimensional space. The work is a celebration of a vibrant and glorious company that has a unique way of moving and of involving and investing the audience in the joy of that movement.
